If there is one annual event every Marista truly anticipates and is excited about, it would most definitely be the Boys’ Week. It is a period in the school year entirely dedicated to the students and filled with several challenging and fun activities.
On February 7 – 12, the Grade School Department celebrated Boys’ Week. A sports fest for Cluster2 and a Feast Day celebration for Cluster 1 were held on February 11.
Also, the Marist Grade School Coordinating Body (MGSCB) organized a Cake Raffle for a Cause to raise funds for its outreach and other activities. The pupils were encouraged to share their blessings by buying raffle tickets.
On February 12 a program was held for the raffling off of the cakes. Highlight of the program is the special song and dance numbers prepared by the teachers as their gift for the pupils. It is on such an occasion that pupils get to witness their teachers perform on stage.
Some of the proceeds of the cake raffle will be used by the MGSCB to support their outreach activity for the elderly residents of Camillus Medhaven in Marikina Heights. On February 19, the MGSCB officers will visit the nursing home to interact with the elders and to share food and gifts.
On February 15 – 19, the High School Department celebrates the occasion with several notable activities organized by the Marist School Coordinating Body (MSCB). Centered on the theme “One Heart, One Mind Ever Forever,” these activities include the following:
- Monday Heart’s Day (February 15)
Opening the Boys’ Week celebration is a mini program to be held at the high school covered court at 2:00 P.M. Highlight of the program is the Lucky Students of the Day. By draw lots, three lucky students from each homeroom will receive special tokens from the MSCB and other sponsors.
- Videoke Tuesday (February 16)
Student representatives of each homeroom are given the chance to show off their singing prowess by joining a videoke contest. This will be held during their lunch break.
- THIRSTday Goal (February 18)
A mini basketball challenge showcasing the students’ basketball skills through a 2-Ball Challenge and a 3-Point Shootout will be held at the high school covered court during their lunch break.
- Friday All Star (February 19)
After participating in an exhaustive sports fest in the morning, the students get to watch a set of friendly sports competition in the afternoon. This competition includes an all-star basketball game and an exhibition game from the Ateneo Blue Eagles (men’s volleyball team).
For the all-star basketball, the teams will be composed of the students and the male faculty. The students’ team is composed of 15 players (three students from Grade 7 and four students each from Grades 8 – 10). The game is played using the Milo League format.
On the other hand, the exhibition game of the Ateneo Blue Eagles will provide the students with an exposure to college athletics and will lend more excitement to the occasion.
Indeed, the line up of activities for the community’s celebration of Boys’ Week promises to make the event another unforgettable moment for the students.
