Saint-marcellinBorn on the 20th of May 1789 at Le Rosey, a hamlet near Marhles, France, Marcellin Champagnat, was baptized 24 hours after his birth on Ascension Thursday in 1789. Marcellin’s life of 51 years was lived between insurrections in France as the intervening period saw successive revolutions and uprisings. The capricious socio-demographic nature in France, the hard winters and terrain which at times were extremely dangerous, and the strong influence of his father, taught Marcellin the virtues of tenacity, adaptability, and toughness. With countless disappointments, difficulties, and setbacks, he experienced the cross in his life, yet his hope and vision remained strong.


Marcellin’s charism made him discover a fresh way of living the Gospel as a concrete response to the needs of young people in time of crisis. At the core of Marist charism is the love of Jesus and Mary for each person and for others, the openness and sensitivity to the needs of the times and the practical love for young people.


To proclaim the Word of God directly to the young, particularly to the most neglected, Saint Marcellin gave this clear mission to his Little Brothers – recognized worldwide as Marist Brothers of the Schools or Fratres Maristae A Scholis (FMS) –for it was this principle that his life and work were guided and he expected his Brothers to do the same. He knew too well that to teach young people, one has to love them first. It had been Mary’s way with Jesus, and Jesus’ with his disciples.


Marist education has made history and has established a common educational heritage as an international family. At the dawn of the 21st century, it is timely to set a fresh expression of the great gift of educational institutions of St. Marcellin and those of Marist education, as we point out new ways of living out the charism of St. Marcellin in the light of diversity and insights of contemporary educational and church thinking.


“All to Jesus, through Mary,” was his motto, and perpetuated in his greeting: “Praise to Jesus Christ and Mary his Mother.”


Marcellin Champagnat was canonized on April 18, 1999.



In 1962, the Brothers thought of establishing a scholasticate in Manila in order for the young Brothers to avail of the resources of the neighboring schools and universities. By providence, Br.  Damian Joseph Teston, FMS, who was then District Superior for the Philippines, received an offer from the Tuazon family to buy a piece of property at the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains bordering Marikina, San Mateo and Antipolo, Rizal.  The 13-hectare property where Marist School is presently located was acquired at a give-away price on condition that a school be established to serve the growing community.


On August 3, 1964, Marist School, with a five-classroom building ready for occupancy, opened its doors to 150 elementary pupils enrolled in Prep, Grades 1,2,3, and 4. Br. Bernard Curtin, FMS was assigned the first school director and master of scholastics who were professed Brothers undergoing post-novitiate training in preparation for the teaching apostolate.  The school provided the opportunity for the young Brothers to teach Religion and supervise pupils’ activities.


To date, Marist is one of the first schools in the Philippines to have been granted a Level III accreditation by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP).



Catholic Marist School is a Catholic school and its philosophy of education is based on the teachings of Christ guided by the Catholic Church. As a Catholic institution, its primary function is to evangelize by making “Jesus known and loved”.  As a school, it is a place where the Gospel values are lived and proclaimed.  These values are necessary in building the Kingdom of God characterized by joy, love, compassion, solidarity, justice, freedom, service, forgiveness, truth respect for human dignity and peace.

It is also catholic in the real sense of the word. Being catholic means to be universal in its aims and appeals to all persons regardless of race, gender, religion, or social position.


Integral Integral education takes into account a person’s individuality, environment, social life in preparation for the realization of his/her full potential. As a center of learning, transmitter of culture and spiritual formator, Marist develops persons of wisdom and faith, courage and patriotism, determination and self-control. In other words, it endeavors to develop individuals who will do what they have to do regardless of cost or difficulty; who make decisions based on the principles and standards they have learned and not on personal whim, pressure from others, or the style of the moment. Marist strives to attain this by providing the student’s knowledge, skills, values to guide the will, enlighten the conscience and train good habits in order to become “good Christians and virtuous citizens”.

Marist Mary is the mother of Christ and the first disciple. The school is named in her honor and thus, it is dedicated to her. She is the “Good Mother”, “Our Ordinary Resource”, “Our Model” a sure guide leading us to Jesus, the perfect man and the Son of God. Marist education will give the young the strength of character necessary in meeting challenges and the determination to follow Him under the gentle, loving eyes of Mary, His mother. The “A” imposed on the “M” recalls to us the Angel’s greeting (Ave Maria) to Mary at the Annunciation: “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women …”

Twelve Stars

The twelve stars are a symbol of the promised woman in the Book of Genesis and of the woman in the Book of Revelation.

Three Violets

The three violets represent the Marist virtues of HUMILITY, SIMPLICITY, MODESTY that St. Marcellin Champagnat wanted every member of the Marist family to practice. It is also the emblem chosen by the worldwide federation of Marist Alumni.

Marist School Child Protection and Anti-bullying Policies

Marist School upholds the rights of children and young people.  It takes its inspiration from the axiom of St. Marcellin Champagnat that in order to educate children they must be loved and the 21st General Chapter of the Marist Brothers that calls for the promotion “at all levels of the Institute, the rights of children and young people and to advocate these rights in government, non-government and other public institutions.”

Specifically, it follows the policy of Marist East Asia Province of Keeping Children Safe that contains the responsibilities and expected behavior to keep children safe. The policy reflects the values and principles of the Marist Brothers to ensure that a safe and positive environment is provided in which children under their care may grow and develop.

Marist School subscribes to the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child that enunciates four basic principles of non-discrimination; devotion to the best interest of the child; the right to life, survival and development; and respect for the views of the child.

It adopts and follows the Philippine laws and policies, especially the “DepEd Children Protection Policy” that protects children in school from abuse, violence, exploitation, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse.



The Marist School Child Protection Policy shall cover all child protection issues that are committed within the Marist School premises whether committed against a Marist School student or students of other schools. It will also cover those committed outside the school against Marist School students, learners or pupils. This policy shall not cover academic issues of the students, learners or pupils.

All adults within the Marist School premises shall be enjoined to follow the Code of Conduct set forth in this Child Protection Policy. School personnel including those who have contractual engagements with Marist School shall be enjoined to follow the Code of Conduct set forth in this policy whether inside or outside Marist School premises.



Marist School commits to provide a conducive learning and safe environment for its pupils and students. Visitors are encouraged to comply with its policies for a pleasurable and delightful visit. The following are to be observed at all times:

  • Visits are allowed only within the operating hours of the school.
  • Visitors are allowed inside the campus during school hours only for valid reasons. They are allowed entry after signing the logbook of the security service.
  • Marist School is a non-smoking zone; thus, smoking is strictly prohibited in any area of the campus.
  • Visitors are to secure visitor’s ID and appointment slip upon entry. These will have to be surrendered upon exit. The appointment slip must be signed by the concerned personnel.
  • Wearing of proper attire is expected of every visitor, parent or alumnus/alumna when entering the campus for official business.
  • Only visits that are properly coordinated with the security personnel are allowed. Coordination with security personnel means notifying them of the visitor’s name, expected date and time of visit for official business.
  • A visitor is permitted to enter after the confirmation of the visit by the concerned personnel.
  • Bags, packages, containers or personal belongings may be inspected by the school’s security guards/or authorized Marist personnel for security purposes.
