MARIST SCHOOL OPENS SCHOOL YEAR 2021-2022

At Marist, we say “SHAPING THE FUTURE, GUIDED BY FAITH.”  This is our driving force:

  • to form our pupils and students to become “good Christians and virtuous citizens” who uphold the integrity of creation and who participate actively in building a just and peaceful society.
  • to provide quality holistic Marist education that forms competent, self-disciplined, and service-oriented lifelong learners who integrate faith, life and culture.
  • to aim for the total and balanced development of the physical, psychological, social, aesthetic, intellectual, moral and spiritual aspects of the individual pupils and students through the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities of the school through our MARIST VIOLETS (Virtual and Integral On-Line Education thru Technology and Supports Systems).

After months of preparing for the new School Year 2021-2022, Marist School opened classes last Tuesday, August 31, 2021. We transitioned to a co-educational system, accepting female students to our school, after being an all-male school since 1964. To prepare for the transition and to set the direction of the new system, all personnel attended webinars on gender-responsiveness. In-service trainings were focused on how to best teach and respond to the needs of our young learners.

As part of the Personnel Development Program, spiritual activities were held in the form of regular formation sessions to better accompany and guide the personnel in continuing our mission to educate the young.  Each day, for the duration of the in-service training, faculty and staff gathered online for morning prayers.  It was a meaningful time for our spiritual community as we read and listened to the Gospel, pondered on the words, discovered our Marist sources and together prayed for healing and protection.

We also started last August 27, 2021 our first lay session with the theme “Homes of Light” based on the circular of the Superior General, Brother Ernesto Sanchez, FMS.

Along with the opening of classes, Marist School launched the Season of Creation with a tree-planting activity initiated by Br Christopher Gorit, FMS our Community Outreach Coordinator and Marist Ecology Ministry representative. This was participated by all sectors which included the Marist Brothers Community of Marikina, School administrators, personnel, MSFEA, MSMPTA and MSMAA.

On September 1, 2021 a Eucharistic Celebration to launch the Season of Creation was held in the Chapel of the Our Lady of the Magnificat.  The Holy Mass was presided by Fr. Marc Anthony Ramos, an alumnus from Batch 1999. It was streamed online for the whole community of parents, alumni, students and personnel. The mass highlighted the call to participate and unite for a worldwide celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home. After the mass, everyone professed to a commitment to respond to the goals of Pope Francis’ Laudato Si’ by participating in activities which include the observance of Meatless Fridays, Signing of the Healthy Planet Healthy People petition, Family/Household Pledge and, the planting 500 of seedlings to commemorate the 500 years of Christianity in the Philippines.
